Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Friday / 03 November 2017

.. A Stable Weather Pattern Continues …
.. Warmer Than Average Temperatures into Early Next Week ..
.. Another Dry Cold Front the Middle Part of Next Week ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a weakening cold front extends southwestward from a surface low pressure area over southwestern Missouri into the Red River country of southern Oklahoma and north Texas and then west northwestward across the Texas panhandle and northeastern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Higher surface pressure is over the eastern USA. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are south southwesterly.

On the upper air map… the broad trough, or line, of upper air low pressure has retreated back northward into Canada with a more zonal (west-to-east) upper level wind developing over much of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are westerly 60 to 65 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Even as another weak cold front moves into northwest Texas and Oklahoma and becomes stationary, I expect a dry and more stable weather pattern to continue area wide through the end of the week and through the upcoming weekend into early next week. In addition, with the increased sunshine, we’ll see afternoon high temperatures warm to well above seasonal levels. Even though we’ll see late night and early morning low clouds along with some patchy fog, I do not expect any rainfall over the next seven days.

Our next cold front will move through the area next Tuesday night into early Wednesday, but at this time, I am not impressed with any rain chances with the system. Temperatures will cool a bit in the wake of the front for the middle part of next week.

Have a good Thursday….
