.. Better Rain and Thunderstorm Chances Continue ..
.. A Cold Front Moves Southward Through Texas by Tomorrow Night ..
On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a southeastward moving cold front extends from central Missouri into eastern Oklahoma then into north central Texas before turning more westward over west Texas into New Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are easterly.
Upper air map… a deep trough, or line, of low pressure is over the western half of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are south southwesterly 15 to 25 mph.
What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
As predicted, our atmosphere is becoming more unstable; as a result, cloudiness has increased a bit along with rain chances slowly increasing with afternoon high temperatures settling to near seasonal levels today.
In response to the eastward movement of the upper level low over the western USA, the cold front, to our northwest, will continue to move southeastward slowly. This will result in a further increase in rain chances by tonight into Wednesday and Thursday. I think that the front will pass southeastward through the Austin and south central Texas area sometime tomorrow evening. At this point, I expect the heaviest and most widespread rainfall to be our distant north and west; locally, any rainfall, where it occurs, over our area over the next few days will average one inch or less.
Once the front passes, temperatures will fall to slightly below seasonal average with clouds diminishing late Thursday into Friday and through the weekend.
