Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 25 September 2017

.. Better Rain and Thunderstorm Chances This Week ..
.. A Cold Front Moves Southward Through Texas this Week ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a southeastward moving cold front extends from northwestern Missouri into a surface low pressure over the northern Texas panhandle then southwestward into far west Texas near El Paso. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are southeasterly.

Upper air map… a deep trough, or line, of low pressure is over the western half of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are west southwesterly 20 to 30 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

As we start the new week, our atmosphere is becoming a little more unstable; as a result, cloudiness has increased a bit along with rain chances slowly increasing with afternoon high temperatures settling to near seasonal levels through tomorrow.

In response to the eastward movement of the upper level low over the western USA, the cold front, to our distant northwest, will continue to move southeastward slowly. This will result in a further increase in rain chances by Wednesday and Thursday. I think that the front will pass southeastward through the Austin and south central Texas area sometime Wednesday evening through Wednesday night. At this point, any rainfall, where it occurs, over our area for the early into middle part of the week will average one inch or less.

Once the front passes, temperatures will fall to below seasonal average with clouds and rain chances diminishing slowly.

Have a good Monday….
