Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern Continues ..
.. Unsettled Wet and Stormy Weather Pattern Early into Mid Parts of Next Week ..

On this Friday… a surface low is over the St. Lawrence Valley with a cold front extending southward through the western Atlantic Ocean into western Cuba. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light south southwesterly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, an eastward moving deep trough of low pressure extends southward from the northeastern USA southward along the eastern USA. An upper level ridge of high pressure extends from northern Mexico through the central plains. Another trough, or line, of low pressure extends southward offshore of coasts of Washington and Oregon to offshore of the California coast. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are westerly at 35 to 45 mph.

A dry and stable weather pattern continues in place across the area.

Another cold front approaches Texas from the west by early next week with increasing low level moisture and increased cloud cover. We’ll see rain chances return as early as Sunday night with rain chances peaking Monday into Monday night into the morning hours on Tuesday. While the front will settle southward to the Texas coast by Tuesday into Tuesday night, we’ll still see some lingering clouds and rain chances for Tuesday and Wednesday. The latest NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests rainfall, over the next seven days, will average 1 to 2 inches over most of our area.

Have a good Friday….
