Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Wednesday / 05 April 2017

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern ..

On this Wednesday… a surface low is over southern Missouri with a cold front extending southward through central Arkansas and western Louisiana and then offshore of the Texas coast in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico then inland again over deep south Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are northwesterly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, an eastward moving deep trough of low pressure extends southward from Iowa and Missouri southward into eastern Texas. An upper level ridge of high pressure extends from the southwestern USA into the Pacific Northwest and the intermountain west. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are northwesterly at 95 to 105 mph.

A dry and stable weather pattern continues in place in the wake of the overnight cold front that passed through the Austin area and south central Texas around the midnight hour last night.

Expect considerable sunshine with much cooler temperatures today into tomorrow before a warm up gets underway Friday into the weekend with the sunshine continuing.

Another cold front approaches Texas from the west by early next week with increasing low level moisture and increased cloud cover. I will introduce rain chances by Monday with rain chances continuing through midweek with the possibility of some stronger thunderstorms and some heavier periods of rain.

Have a good Wednesday….
