Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 27 February 2017

… More Clouds and Higher Humidity …
… Another Low Pressure Area/Cold Frontal Passage by Mid Week …
… Cooler Temperatures Mid-Late Week into the Weekend …

On this Monday… a stationary front extends northeastward from southwest Texas into a weak surface low around Abilene then eastward across north Texas across northern Louisiana into central Mississippi. As a result, our surface winds across south central Texas are southerly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere.. a trough, or line, of upper air low pressure is deepening over the western third of the USA from west of Hudson Bay southwestward to California. Our upper level winds, at about 30,000 feet overhead, are west southwestward at 90 to 100 mph.

Southerly low level winds continue to bring low level moisture northward into Texas with low clouds and even a few rain showers here and there as we begin the new week. After a chilly start to the weekend, our temperatures are warming and will continue through tomorrow into tomorrow night.

A quick moving cold front will approach the area by tomorrow night and then move through the area in the predawn hours Wednesday. Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may develop in advance of the front.

Skies will clear with cooler and drier conditions expected Wednesday through the end of the week.

A developing surface low pressure area.. along the old front to our distant south.. will move west to east with an overrunning pattern developing for the upcoming weekend. Another cold front will move into Texas by late in the weekend with rain chances and clouds lingering into Sunday.

Have a good Monday….
