… Warmer Temperatures as We Start the New Week …
… Another Storm System with Good Chance of Rain By Late Week into the Weekend …

On this Monday… a surface high pressure area is over Virginia and the Carolinas. Low pressure is slowly developing to our distant northwest over Colorado and Wyoming with trough.. or line.. of surface low pressure extending southward into far west Texas and New Mexico. As a result of the surface weather pattern, our local surface winds are southerly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere.. a broad trough of low pressure extends southward from eastern Canada down the eastern USA seaboard. Another deep trough.. or line.. of upper level low pressure is moving ashore along the west coast of the USA. A weak ridge of upper level high pressure extends northward from northern Mexico through the Rockies. Our winds, at about 18,500 feet overhead, are northwesterly at 20 to 25 mph.

The arctic high pressure.. which brought us the unseasonably cold temperatures over the weekend.. is moving eastward along the USA east coast as the next storm system gets developed over the western third of the country.

As a result of us being on the west side of the surface high along the east coast of the USA, our surface winds have returned southerly with increasing low level moisture and warmer temperatures. We will see some late night and early morning low clouds over the next few days with daytime highs going back to well above seasonal averages with plenty of sunshine expected.

By late Wednesday into Thursday, the low pressure storm system out west will be far enough eastward combined with increased low level moisture and increased instability that clouds will increase and thicken overhead with rain chances returning to the forecast. Even a few thunderstorms are possible especially as a cold front sluggishly moves through our area Friday during the day. While temperatures will cool a bit following this front, the coldest air will remain well to our north.

The front will not move much further southeast until Saturday into Sunday with rain shower and isolated thunderstorm chances lingering locally with clouds and cooler temperatures as an overrunning pattern persists as the front struggles to move through southeast Texas and to near the Texas coast.

Early indications are that one to two inches of rain (it may end up being more..) for the late week through weekend time period and into Monday of next week.

Have a good Monday….
