TK’s Weather Discussion….

… I’ll be taking off tomorrow (Friday) through Sunday / 5 July and will not
be updating this blog. Have a great Fourth of July holiday…

Updated 915am CT – Thursday / 02 July 2015

.. Afternoon High Temperatures Near Seasonal Averages ..
.. Slim Rain and Thunderstorm Chances Returning for the Holiday Weekend ..

On this Thursday…. a weakening cold front extends from southeastern Kansas into extreme north central and northwestern Oklahoma then into southwest Kansas. A trough.. or line.. of low pressure extends southwestward from western Kansas across the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles southwestward across the west Texas into far southwest Texas and southern New Mexico. Surface high pressure is over the eastern half of the Gulf of Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our local surface winds are southerly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere.. an upper level high pressure area, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, has settled southeastward over New Mexico.. Arizona and northern Mexico with an upper level low pressure trough extending southward from Hudson Bay across the Great Lakes states and southward into the northeastern parts of the USA. As a result, our upper air winds at about 18,500 feet, are light and variable.

A summer weather pattern continues with a moist, tropical air mass holding across the area.

It looks like a rather typical and benign summer weather pattern prevailing for the balance of the week through our Fourth of July holiday weekend with afternoon high temperatures near seasonal averages.

I’ll continuing slim rain shower and thunderstorm chances for Saturday into Sunday, but, at least at this time, I think the chances will be fairly minimal and I don’t expect a wash out. However, I urge you to be weather aware and keep an eye on the sky through the Fourth of July weekend and remember how deadly cloud to ground lightning can be!!

Have a good Thursday and a Great Holiday Weekend….
