Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #8
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel

… Morning Lows So Far Across our Area on this Monday Morning …
AGHT2/Great Hills NWS Coop Station (Arboretum Area)……..   26.6 F / 7:01am
KATT/Austin City -Camp Mabry (NWS ASOS)…….   30 F / 6:59am
KAUS/Austin Bergstrom International Airport (FAA ASOS)……..   30 F / 6:59a
Lakeway 2E (LCRA Hydromet)………    26 F
Pflugerville 3SSE (LCRA Hydromet)………   27 F
Jollyville 2SW (LCRA Hydromet)……….   28 F

The reinforcing arctic air continues to settle south southeastward across the area.

With a mostly clear sky.. and given the newest arctic surge.. I expect a widespread,
and potentially hard, freeze for the area tonight into tomorrow morning. Temperatures
are likely to fall into the 20 to 25 degree F range in outlying and low lying areas with
downtown Austin likely seeing temperatures of 29 to 32 degrees F. Average lows
across the city/metro area will be in the mid and upper 20s. Please remember your pets..
pipes and plants…

A climate note:
It should be also noted that the record low temperature for tomorrow morning, at both
Camp Mabry (temperature records back to 1898) and at Austin Bergstrom International
Airport (temperature records back to 1943), is 26 degrees F set on 18 November 1959.
I think these records have a good chance of being tied or broken.. especially at Austin
Bergstrom International Airport.

I’ll continue to keep you advised..

Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #7

… Another Reinforcing Surge of Colder Arctic Air Moving into the Area …

The high temperature for the day (around 50F degrees) has now been recorded at KAUS/Austin
Bergstrom International Airport and KATT/Austin City-Camp Mabry with temperatures expected
to slowly fall through the remainder of the day.

The reinforcing arctic air is now moving southward through our area with increasing northerly surface
winds. Patchy light drizzle is still possible over the next few hours but is expected to taper off across
our area by the evening hours before temperatures fall.. back in the advancing colder air.. to near
freezing in the overnight hours tonight. Areas to our north.. including the Waco and Dallas/Fort Worth
metroplex could see rain briefly mix with or change to snow before the precipitation ends by mid to
late evening tonight.

Skies will start to clear locally in the wake of the surface and upper level low pressure storm system by
the predawn hours tomorrow. With this.. and given the new reinforcing arctic surge and expected clear
sky.. I expect a widespread, and potentially hard, freeze for the area tomorrow night into early Tuesday
morning.

I’ll continue to keep you advised..
