Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #12
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
125pm CT – Thursday / 09 May 2019

… More Rain and Strong Thunderstorms and Potential Flooding on the Way …
… Average 3 to 5 Inch Rainfalls Over the Region Beginning Tonight Through Saturday Night …

… Flash Flood WATCH Continues for our IH35 Corridor Counties Until 7pm Saturday Night …

Severe thunderstorm risk has diminished a bit.. although, along and east of IH35, there is
still a risk of an isolated tornado.. some larger hail and damaging thunderstorm winds through
late tonight as a weak cold front moves southeast of the area and stalls.

With passing upper air low pressure disturbances, in an overrunning pattern, we’ll see widespread
rain.. rain shower and thunderstorm activity back in the cooler surface based air later tonight
through tomorrow and Saturday. Quickly occurring urban, flash flooding and even river flooding
is possible where heavier rainfall occurs especially in areas where heavier rain has fallen over the
recent days and weeks.

Please stay weather aware over the coming days.

I encourage everyone to be weather aware over the coming days. Know, in advance, the
difference between a NWS issued WATCH, ADVISORY and WARNING.

Always have at least two methods of getting current weather information..
.. follow me AND activate notifications on Twitter .. @troykimmelwx ..
.. have your NWS All Hazards Weather Radio properly set so it can receive and activate
when NWS watches and warnings are issued ..
.. make sure the WEA alerts are activated in your settings on your smart phone ..
.. go to the NWS Austin-San Antonio website at weather.gov/ewx ..
.. go to http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/afos/retrieve.py?pil=warewx&limit=20&fmt=html
for a chronological text listing (most current at the top but note the page doesn’t auto-refresh, you
must refresh page manually) of NWS Austin-San Antonio watches, advisories and warnings..

I’ll continue to monitor..
