.. A Mostly Dry Stable Weather Pattern Continues for Another Week ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a cold front extends southwestward from central Kentucky and western Tennessee where it turns into a stationary front and continues into central and southern Arkansas and through north Texas westward into the Texas south plains around Lubbock. A surface high pressure is over southwestern Colorado and northern New Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light southerly.

Upper air map… a broad area of low pressure extends southward from western Canada into the northwestern USA. Upper level high pressure area is over northern Mexico northeastward over Texas. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are west southwesterly at 40 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Today’s guidance (and, in fact, Doppler weather coverage) is a little more suggestive of a few rain showers and thunderstorms to our east today. However, I will hold off on rain chances locally along the IH35 corridor with most of rain expected further to the east. An otherwise dry stable weather pattern with slightly above average afternoon high temperatures continuing to hold through Thursday.

By late week through the weekend, as our atmosphere becomes a little more unstable, cloudiness will increase a bit with slightly better rain chances with afternoon high temperatures closer to seasonal levels. At this point, any rainfall, where it occurs over our area, would average 1/4 inch or less.

Have a good Monday….
