Updated 130pm CDT Thursday / 31 May 2012

…. A Weak Cold Front Moving Southeastward into Our Area ….
…. Precipitation Chances End by Later Tonight ….
…. A Dry and Stable Weather Pattern Prevail Tomorrow Through the Weekend ….

On this Thursday… a south southeastward moving cold front is situated from a surface low over the Mississippi Valley around Memphis, TN southwestward through our area and into southwest Texas. A surface high pressure area over the plains states is settling southward in the wake of the cold front. As a result of this pressure pattern, a south southeasterly surface wind is shifting northeasterly in the wake of the cold front as it moves across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a trough.. or line.. of upper air low pressure is deepening over the eastern half of the United States. As a result of the upper air wind flow, the upper level winds are increasing from the northwest over our area.

Well, we’re seeing a little change over our area as the upper air low over the eastern part of the USA becomes stronger. This is resulting, as mentioned above, in an increased northwesterly upper level wind across our area with a south southeastward moving cold front progressing through our area. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.. which have developed with the front.. are moving southeastward and will move, with the front, to the Texas coast later tonight as weak surface high pressure builds in from the north in the wake of the front.

In the wake of the front tomorrow night, skies will remain mostly clear to partly cloudy as temperatures cool only a very few degrees. The surface high will move east of the area rapidly, however, with a return south southeasterly surface wind flow by tomorrow night into Saturday and continuing through the balance of the seven day forecast period. This dry and stable weather pattern will result in partly cloudy skies with late night and early morning low cloudiness expected through the weekend through most of next week with afternoon high temperatures near or slightly above seasonal averages.

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will be partly cloudy with any thunderstorm activity moving to our distant southeast by late evening. Lows in the upper 60s to near 70. Northeasterly wind. For tomorrow, mostly sunny and less humid. Highs around 90. Northeasterly wind will becoming easterly by late afternoon.

Have a good Thursday night and Friday…
