TK’s Weather Update for Wednesday / 26 Kuly 2017 ….

Updated 915am CT – Wednesday / 26 July 2017

.. A Typical Dry Summer Weather Pattern Continues ..

On the Weather Map…
Surface map… weak surface low pressure extends southward from eastern Colorado and western Kansas south southwestward into eastern New Mexico and west/southwest Texas. A northeastward moving warm front extends from northeastern Kansas into middle and west Tennessee. Otherwise, weak high pressure is centered to our west over the four corners region and well as over the Gulf of Mexico and the southeastern USA. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are southerly.

Upper air map… a trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is moving slowly eastward through northern California and the Pacific Northwest with another located over southern Hudson Bay. Upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, covers the south central USA over Oklahoma and northwest Texas. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are light and easterly less than 10 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Other than some isolated rain showers and thunderstorms to our distant east southeast where there is better instability and moisture today into tonight, I see a typically dry summer weather pattern continuing as the upper level “lid” continues overhead and the northwest of the area. A reminder that we could always see an isolated cloud buildup due to afternoon heating. The latest NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests little if any precipitation through the end of the week. Temperatures will continue to be above to well above seasonal averages through the balance of the week.

By the weekend, the upper level low pressure trough over the eastern USA will deepen a bit with another upper air disturbance diving southeastward through the Mississippi Valley with a cold front moving southeastward into areas of Oklahoma and Arkansas and then “backdooring” its way into northeast Texas. As a result of the front settling southwestward into Texas and the air mass becoming more unstable, I will mention increased rain showers and thunderstorm chances beginning Saturday and continuing into early next week with temperatures coming down only a few degrees due to the increased cloud cover and overall more unstable air mass.

Have a good Wednesday….
