.. A Stable Summer Weather Pattern Continues ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface weather map this Friday… surface high pressure is east of the area with a trough.. or line.. of low pressure extending southward from western Nebraska to along the Colorado/Kansas border then across the western Texas panhandle and then south southwestward into southwest Texas. Another surface high pressure area is located over the four corners area. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light southerly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a broad upper air low pressure trough, or line of low pressure, extends from Hudson Bay southward through the Great Lakes and into the southeastern USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are light and variable.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
There were a few more rain showers and thunderstorms than I thought we would yesterday. Still, overall, there will be little change in the overall stable weather pattern for south central Texas and the Austin metro area over the next seven days.

We’ll continue to see our morning low clouds giving way to abundant sunshine each day with highs in the upper 90s through the weekend into next week. As we saw yesterday, marginal instability will combine with intense afternoon heating to create a few towering afternoon clouds and very isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, but, at this point, I think that rain chances are too slim at any given location to be a major concern locally. Please keep an eye on the sky, however, since lightning could still be a risk.

Have a good Friday….
