Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Tuesday / 11 April 2017

.. Non-Event Overnight ..
.. Rain Chances Down for Today ..
.. Slim Rain Chances Late Week ..

On this Tuesday… a surface cold front extends southwestward from the eastern Great Lakes into northeastern Arkansas where it becomes stationary and extends southwestward across the ArkLaTex region then into central Texas.. north of the Austin area.. then to north of Del Rio and westward over the Big Bend. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are easterly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a rather zonal (west-to-east) wind pattern prevails over the USA with weak troughs (lines of low pressure) along the southern California coast as well as over the eastern Great Lakes. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are westerly at 35 to 45 mph.

After a horrible forecast and a “non-event” overnight as a result of the weakening stationary front staying to our north, we’re still looking at rain and thunderstorm chances continue today into tonight. Rainfall amounts will average 1/4 inch or less with heavier totals likely to be found to the ditant east.. southeast and south of the Austin area proper.

Clouds will tend to linger into tomorrow and Thursday through Friday with a slim chance of rain showers and thunderstorms.

Clouds may break a bit Friday into the weekend although there will continue to be isolated rain showers and thunderstorms possible.

Have a good Tuesday….
