Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Tuesday / 21 February 2017

… A Dry and Stable Weather Pattern …
… Another Dry Cold Frontal Passage Friday …
… Another Low Pressure Area/Cold Frontal Passage Due Sunday with Some Rain …

On this Tuesday… a weak cold front extends southward from central Missouri into eastern Oklahoma and into Texas well east of the IH35 corridor. As a result, our surface winds across south central Texas are northwesterly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere.. a strong upper level low pressure is over the Ark-La-Tex region. Our upper level winds, at about 30,000 feet overhead, are northwesterly 90 to 100 mph.

A dry and stable weather pattern persist over the area. Temperatures, with the drier air mass in place, will warm with temperatures through Thursday expected to be well above seasonal averages.

Another quick moving cold front.. this one actually accompanied by a little cooler air.. will move through the area Friday morning into midday. Low level moisture return ahead of the front will be minimal so I do not anticipate rainfall with the front. Temperatures will cool just a bit with abundant sunshine Friday into Saturday.

The third low pressure area and surface cold front that I’ve been talking about looks now to be delayed until the Tuesday and Tuesday night time period next week. As a result of the system being slowed a bit, I think we’ll see a better moisture return to the area which should result in better rain chances when the front arrives. I will cut back rain chances in the Sunday and Monday time period with rain chances arriving just beyond the seven day forecast period.

Have a good Tuesday….
