A unexpected and persistent cloud deck.. with its bases between 3,500 and 4,500 feet above
ground level.. have kept us warmer here at daybreak. Our low temperatures for the morning
have occurred back closer to 3am when there were breaks in the clouds. The NWS Freeze
Warning has verified for the area given the overnight freeze through much of the area with
possible exception of the immediate downtown Austin area.

***UPDATE***
The 25.0 F low at Austin Bergstrom International Airport this morning has set a new record
low for the date (14 Nov). The old record for the date was 27 F on this date last year (2013).
Temperature records at Austin Bergstrom International Airport go back to 1943.

… Lows This Friday Morning So Far …

Most calendar day/morning lows across the immediate Austin metro area this morning
have been, in general,  in the 28 to 32 F range.

… Watching Rain Chances for the Weekend …

By late tonight into tomorrow.. with the approach of an upper air low pressure disturbance..
we’ll begin to set up a rather weak “overrunning” pattern where moisture from the Gulf of
Mexico returns and rides up and over the colder surface based air. Clouds and very slim rain
chances will return late tonight through tomorrow night and Sunday.

The latest guidance suggests that another reinforcing cold front will move across the area..
in association with a passing upper air low pressure disturbance.. by Sunday night. As the
front passes, an additional surge of unseasonably cold air will quickly move across the area
with isolated patches of light rain.
